Check your Google presence in 20 minutes.
Fifteen simple checks. No experience needed, just your phone and your Google Business Profile. Each item says what to check and what a good result looks like.
Your Google Business Profile
- 01
Search your business name on Google
You should see an info card for your business. If you do not, the profile does not exist or is not verified.
- 02
The profile is claimed and verified
If you see "Own this business?", you have not claimed it. You cannot change anything until you do.
- 03
The primary category is as specific as possible
Pick what you actually do, such as "Auto repair shop", not just "Service". Category has the biggest effect on what you show up for.
- 04
The name matches your real signage
No keywords or city added to the name. That breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
- 05
Address and service area are correct
Check the map pin. If you work at customers' locations, set a service area instead of showing an address.
- 06
Phone and opening hours are current
Including holidays. Wrong opening hours are one of the most common reasons for lost calls.
- 07
There are at least 10 real, recent photos
Your premises, your work, your team. Not stock photos.
- 08
Services are listed with descriptions
List each service separately, in the plain words customers search for.
Reviews and local search
- 09
You reply to reviews
Answer all of them, good and bad. Reviews from the last 30 days show you are active.
- 10
Search "your service + your city" on your phone
Do you appear in the top three map results? Who is there instead of you and what do they have that you do not?
Your website and data consistency
- 11
The site opens in under 3 seconds on mobile
Test it free on PageSpeed Insights. A slow site loses customers before they see it.
- 12
The page title and H1 contain your service and city
For example "Auto repair Sarajevo", not just your company name or "Welcome".
- 13
The link in your profile goes to the right page
For a business with several locations, each profile should link to that location's page.
- 14
Name, address and phone are identical everywhere
On your site, Facebook, Instagram and directories. Differences confuse Google and customers.
- 15
The business also exists on Bing Places
Bing is one of the sources behind ChatGPT's web search. It is a free listing and can often be imported from your Google profile.
How to read your result
If you ticked 12 or more, your foundation is good and what is left is fine-tuning. Between 7 and 11, you are losing visibility on things that are quick to fix. Below 7, competitors are currently skipping past you on the map.
